This Huntsman knife made popular by the Swiss Army has taken on many forms. These forms first created by Master Cutler Karl Elsener in 1884, and carried by his family through the Victorinox product line have a unique purposeful approach and philosophy that seems to be evident, and different from other multitool manufacturers. In 1891 Karl Elsener invented a multi-tool called the “Offiziermesser” for soldiers and woodsman. American GIs referred to the knife as the “Swiss Army Knife” in 1945.

The though process behind its scope of functionality is unique. This is true even though the product line has expanded over the years to many models.

All these models follow a theme. This theme is uniquely recognizable as a Swiss Army Pocket Knife. Not only by the tool’s shape, size, and the same for the tool-blades folded in the Swiss flag themed casing.

Leatherman, and other multitool manufacturers seem to have nitch themes that do not imitate the nitch of other companies like Victorinox.

The Swiss Army Knife Huntsman model, while modernized still has the feel of being born of war time minimalism.

The emphasis of the original Victorinox had to focus on compactness rather than hand torque. Rather then compactness where the main tool wasn’t anything but the multitool.

Ad hoc reasoning and imagination aside: The Swiss Army Knife Huntsman is an affective complement of fourteen different tools.

The “multi-tool”, as the manufacturer chooses to spell it, has a large and small blade.

Next the tool has a cork screw which is a signature feature of the Victorinox Swiss Army Knife for opening wine bottles.

There is one cap lifter, as-well-as a can thumb leverage can opener.

The screw drivers are meant for minimal, yet often affective torque. They are 3mm and 6mm in capacity.

There is also needful tweezers, toothpick, wire stripper, a wood saw, scissors, and a multipurpose hook often used for skinning food, or tearing away cloth in an emergency.

Only the Swiss Army Huntsman Knife with the Victorinox logo is an authentic Elsener family product.

This Swiss Army Pocket Knife Huntsman model is created from stainless steal, and has a lifetime warranty to be durable and get the small jobs done that are too tough for your bare hands to do alone in a tight spot.

If you have always wanted to use the right tool for the right job while landscaping-it-yourself, Mantis E-System seems a rather interesting option.

One single power head and four optional attachments make the Mantis E-System a four-in-one package that can be tailored to meet both rigorous standards of quality as well as the do-it-yourselfers needs, all in one practical/versatile tool that trims, line cuts, edges and prunes as needed.

Using electricity as the power source also gives Mantis E-System an edge in urban lots where fumes and CO2 regulations have cracked down on the use of gas powered yard equipment. Even the noise regulations are overcome with only the humming purr of whipping blades.

Bushes, small trees, branches that get in the way or even hedges that have overgrown their purpose and now take over more area than they should, Mantis E-System was designed to do the job with less weight, more power and more diversity.

Power Head (click image to buy)

Mantis E-System Power Head is the source of all the power and turns four tools into one tool. The Power Head has an extra long reach for those taller tree branches and difficult to get to places, is lightweight and offers a good balance with a the shoulder harness in use.

Weighing only 11.8 pounds, consuming 850 Watts, running at 8000 RPM, the full shaft length is 36 inches long.

Edger Attachment (click image to buy)

Like all the other options for the Mantis E-System, the Edger Attachment is also lightweight and easy to maneuver. Rolling smoothly along walkways, driveways and lawn divisions or garden beds; (must be used in addition to the Power Head).

At a mere 7.2 pounds over all, the shaft length is useful for those who need to keep healthy and up right, with an additional 24.5 inches at the edger end.

Including a steel cutting blade, steel cutting guard and six-inch guide wheel.

The U-shaped guide handle allows for a more comfortable grip while the cutting depth can be adjusted to up to 2 inches, all working upright.

Line Trimmer Attachment (click image to buy)

Mantis E-System Line Trimmer Attachment is used in unison with the Power Head and takes down those weeds and undesirables that your lawn mower didn’t get at.

Around the edges and in the corners of tall grass, like on those bad-news slopes, the Line Trimmer Attachment does the job.

Only 3.2 pounds in weight, the shaft is 24.5 inches long and the cutting swath takes a good 16.75 inches of diameter down to the ground with just one single pass.

Hedge Trimmer Attachment (click image to buy)

Mantis E-System Hedge Trimmer Attachment can be adjusted for high and low spaces and will trim hedges without straining your neck or back muscles, cutting at different angles.

Up to 180 degrees of angling, the quick-release lever makes moving the angle of the trimmer attachment no nonsense.

Low hedges, ground covers or tall hedges, the HTA weights six pounds and must also be used together with the power head to function.

The Shaft length is the standard 24.5 inches long, with an over all reach of 8.2 feet when fully assembled.

The blade is 20 inches long and comes with dual-reciprocating hardened-steel blades that cut branches up to 3/8 inches thick.

Pruner Attachment (click image to buy)

Mantis E-System Pruner Attachment must also be used together with the Power Head and will take down tall tree branches of up to seven feet high, without the use of a ladder, without strain or injury and weighs only four pounds.

The shaft is 29.5 inches long, and comes with a self-lubrication tank of 4.1 ounces that will automatically oil the chain whenever necessary and cut branches of up to four inches thick.

Mantis E-System was designed for those who like to save shed space, those looking to save the back muscles from unwanted strain and those who enjoy playing with yard tools all day while still getting the work done.

Opening the mouth of a trashbag while scooping up a yard mess at the same time can be a dandy trick indeed and lugging around the trashcan to do the same job a heavy deal.

Garden Containers pop-up and open just like the trashcan but weight no more than a trashbag and just as compact.

If you want the lightest version offered by Fiskars Kangaroo Garden Container, that the 10 gallon design is probably what you are looking for. While it is the most compact, stacking only 2 inches, it is also durable with a vinyl coated polyester construction.

There are three versions of the Kangaroo:

Fiskars 10 gallon Kangaroo – is tear and mildew resistant, bearing a corrosion resistant steel spring 15 inches in diameter and 18 inches in height.

Fiskars 30 gallon Kangaroo – has the same construction as the 10 gallon except that it comes with a spring 22 inches diameter, 28 inches in height and compacts down to 3 inches instead of two.

Fiskars Hardshell Base Kangaroo – 30 gallon, is a little heavier than the lightweight version with drain holes on the bottom to prevent water pooling from wet leaves.

Fiskars Hardshell is great for really heavy weight jobs can even be dragged around without tearing (unlike the lightweight Kangaroo products, which are only resistant.

The spring design on the Hardshell is exactly the same as the lightweight 30 gallon with the exception of the bottom being hard plastic with holes.

Any of these Kangaroo Garden Containers will usually ship within one business day, if in stock, if not, ten business days. Affordable, useful and exactly what composting experts enjoy for a little relief on the back, Fiskars Garden Containers are what the professionals use.

If you have large amounts of kitchen scraps, live in the city or somewhere with limited garden space, the Mantis Compost Twin could be for you.

Tumblers in general are very effective, but most people find that they don’t have enough compost bin space at the end of the week to start the next batch while last weeks is still curing.

Tumbling is a good idea in general, for those who need immediate results for home made humus. But the advantages of having two bins in one tumbler are numerous to the single tumbler variety.

Mantis is an interesting product not merely for their unique compost tumbler design that not only allows for efficient and greatly needed high temperatures, but also easy tumbling that in a traditional cold pile or bin just seems to take forever to go out there with a shovel or pitch fork and do manually.

The Mantis ComposT-Twin is a hot pile, and one of the best made. Not merely for their effective design and easy use, but also due to outstanding ventilation grades that not only allow high quantities of oxygen into the center of the hot spot on a daily basis but also keep critters and bad smells far from your lot.

Hot piles such as those found in tumblers like the Mantis reliable Compost tumbler are sure to kill anything that could be harmful to your plants or humans and transform all that organic matter into nutrient rich soil that mother nature loves.

Statistics show that the average North American family of five people will fill approximately 10-15 cubic feet worth of organic kitchen scraps in seven days. The magic behind Mantis ComposT-Twin two-bin compost tumbler is there, it offers what the average people need in one week two fold!

Holding some 25 cubic feet of kitchen scraps is exactly what the average family would need if the tumbler is being used properly. That way, after one bin has been filled, the second bin can start the same process; leaving the first bin to fully compost throughout the week.

That extra week of isolated tumbling will make quick work of your organic kitchen wastes for those thermophilic composters. Instead of dieing off with the lack of organic matter in traditional cold piles, thermophiles will find themselves equally distributed throughout the hot pile of a tumbler on a daily basis.

Mantis ComposT-Twin tumblers provide an amply supply of organic material to feast upon, and make absolutely sure that you have decent compost within a reasonable amount of time. If you like turning the tumbler you will find that soon you will have so much humus you can give it away to friends and neighbors.

Do you use ten bushels of humus a week? If you do, then the Mantis ComposT-Twin compost bin is going to pay for itself in just two years of usage. If not, then hey, you are going to have either the brightest looking plants in the neighborhood or make some of the best friends in town gardeners!

At least that is the average. If you want guarantees, Mantis speaks for itself. Mantis will allow for complete satisfaction on any product sold for one year or your money back: no-risk and no-hassle! Mantis is an honest product, and the ComposT-Twin is perfect for anyone looking to make humus of kitchen scraps with easy and guaranteed no-risk safety.

Nowadays when we think about using a watering can or beaker to water the garden it usually means that the garden is totally out of reach of the hose and/or needing special attention. But for the professional gardener with large amounts of gardening to be done, certain garden gadgets such as garden wands, can be a real help.

The garden wand takes the form of a showerhead-watering beaker so that maximum amounts of water can be concentrated inside the pot without ever disturbing soil, petals or anything delicate that might be growing in it. Garden wands are made in many different lengths, shapes and sizes, each garden wand with a specific use given certain conditions and species that approve of certain kinds of rain.

Delicate applications of water is important, not only to the petals of flowers and loose soil with rare root systems as well as seedlings and newly planted plugs, but also for the conservation of a precious resource, fresh water.

Not everyone is into the conservation of water, but nonetheless, it is a direct result of using a garden wand, and at the end of the month, the serious gardener will certainly feel the difference in their water bill, as will the plants throughout the month with gleeful growthspirts.

Garden wands came around just after the world had been through enough destruction for decades to come and it makes sense that people began to look to gardening as a way to reconstruct themselves and the world. Gardeners are some of the most friendly people in the world, no matter what country you are in, they just seem so happy and they want to make their plants happy. Anybody talking to plants knows how important taking ever better steps to their ongoing growth and development seems to really make a difference, which is why garden wands exist, sensibility.

Garden wands help us get into better positions to treat each and every different kind of plant with the kind of attention that plant really needs, which is why so many different kinds exist. If you need to kneel down every spring to get under those small perennials growing up in the flowerbed, you don’t want hinder them. But rain light rainbow showers seem to be so delicate and filled with all the sun they need, hence the Rainbow Wand, the softest full-flow watering nozzle available. Dramm makes a good one that even comes with their special foam Handi-Grip Handle so that you can spend more time with relaxed muscles and concentrate on the watering.

Of course, all garden wands come with shut off valves especially for them. Just as they come in different lengths and shapes that were designed for certain purposes. Rain Wands were designed for watering flower beds from above and are more powerful than the Rainbow Wands, with longer necks that reach way out their into the middle and back by the fencing, all the while maintaining a constant down flow into the bed.

That parabola effect that the hose causes just wastes an awful lot of water, and sometimes, urban lots find themselves under serious restrictions on water usage, so these things can save lots of money in the long run if not just the fact that the flowers are happier.

The Hanging Basket Wand really looks like an outdoor showerhead from the old west, and makes things easy when trying to get those flower beds up high. Money plants and ferns just love this one, and you can even get really close and start talking to the plant underneath it like some of us already try and do while watering, Hanging Basket Wands just make it more fun and attentive.

Some say that plants really listen in the rain, like they open their ears with a little water shower, well, out on the patio, the Patio Plant Wand is ideal. The short neck and downward shower head, makes for keeping our backs safe from unwanted injury while bending over to find the perfect place to water. Patio Plant Wands are great for potted patio plants cause it makes things really simple while standing right over the plant and reproducing a shower that opens those little plant ears to our strange garden speak.

As a tool, garden wands are equipped with rugged and enduring materials for weathering conditions. Garden wands can be found in anodized aluminum, and all the colors of the rainbow with every part of the wand prepared to take on the elements and the forbidding poundings of oxidation without even a single fret. Garden wands were made for master gardeners who want their plants to have the very best attention possible to get that award winning growth that we gardeners are just more than anxious to show off to the world.

Friendly Robotics® makes improvements on technology, robots have now gotten smart enough to be able to mow the lawn without supervision. Of course they all still have to be shown their limits, and where the lawn is.

And most importantly, the curious might be shunned from approaching these pre-programmed technological miracles.

2006 has brought on an onslaught of new robotic companies to get into the market as well as do-it-yourselfers with models that have in some cases even been built from scrap.

The most famous name brand in the market for this year so far has been the RoboMower® by Friendly Robotics. The versions RL850 and RL1000 are both cost effective, electric chargeable modules with total self-sustainability.

If you want something a little more style, the Automower from Husqvarna is a nice military green. Darker than the light RoboMower green, but with basically the same specs. Automowers can be found for 1,500 pounds including accessories.

But for sleek stylization, the Robots and Relax Company have developed a beautiful crimson red Lamborghini looking robot lawn mower with lithium batteries known as the Evolution. The idea is that this is the latest and coolest robot model of the year.

Fashion is what goes into price. Testing these machines by consumers is the whole step for this year, so as soon as you purchase yours be sure and write a consumer report, so other people will know what your experience has been thus far.

For 2007 more of these machines are sure to appear, but right now, they are the fever for small urban lots that need to cut down on serious CO2 pollution as well as noise. They are so quiet you can program robot lawn mowers to do the lawn at night and return to post.

Comfort, efficiency and aesthetic appeal all in one autonomous solution that is quickly revolutionizing our way of doing the lawn.

Complete review of latest Robomowers.

Color – Brown which blends in with dirt or mulch.

Pull Strap Handle – To pull up bag to allow drip holes to emit water.

Color – Green.

Instructions: Wrap treegator around tree, zip up the zipper, fill bag with hose and lift straps.

An added benefit when using treegators is that the moist ground underneath is attractive to earthworms which churn and aerate the soil leaving worm castings that act as a natural fertilizer. These drip irrigation bags are the real deal, I will post some pictures when the ground thaws.

I contacted SafeGrasp™ to asked them about their interesting new gloves and they kindly sent me a sample pair to try out, so here is my review.

GardenArmor™ Garden Gloves come nicely boxed with a brochure and a tube that warns you to be careful and have the gloves on before opening it. What was in the tube? Barbed wire! That’s right, SafeGrasp™ is confident enough of these gloves puncture protection that they ask you to grasp barbed wire to prove their strength. Sure enough, they are in fact puncture proof and will be perfect for my rose bushes and clearing brush.

Gardening Glove Info.

Puncture Protection – Micro-sized guard plates (a super hard resin) are integrated into a flexible fabric base making these gloves soft but puncture proof.

Cut Protection – The micro-sized patented plates (developed by HDM, Inc.) also gives these gardening gloves their cut protection.

Stain Resistance – SafeGrasp™ gloves are machine washable (nice!).

Unisex sizes – small, medium, large, x-large, and xx-large.

Colors – Sage (light green) or Kelly (darker green)

I have average size male hands and the large sized gloves were a little loose but not uncomfortably so, if you like a more snug fit go with one size smaller. They have womens GardenArmor™ 250w Leather Gloves that offer puncture and cut protection but in a more traditional style. If you are simply interested in getting a set of gloves specifically for rose and other thorny bushes you could try the ThornArmor™ 235 Gloves.

What ever garden gloves you choose you will surely have purchased a set that will last more than one season. An outstanding product and I am not just saying so because I got a free pair!
